Built across the full finance value chain.

External audit taught me rigor. Internal audit broadened my lens. Controllership made me an operator. Entrepreneurship taught me where capital and attention create value.

Why I moved

Every move followed a learning curve.

01

From audit to the business

When my learning curve at PwC flattened, I chose international internal audit for wider operational exposure. COVID then interrupted a planned travel break, so I joined Kraft Heinz deliberately to understand finance from inside the business.

02

From controller to founder

I moved into independent consulting to fund a growing e-commerce operation. Running both sharpened my judgement: growth only matters when the model, working capital and my attention can sustain it.

03

From property depth to broader scope

Realterm taught me property and fund accounting and informed my own real-estate investing. Once that role became too narrow, I sought cross-border IFRS reporting, transformation and management assignments.

04

Back to Big Four, by choice

After a long-planned travel break and a finance manager role, I returned to KPMG for complex global organisations, world-class teams and practical exposure to AI-enabled work.

Led the post-acquisition group and entity reporting for a global aviation safety group. Converted Dutch, UK and local GAAP positions to IFRS; built the lease model from scratch; coordinated country managers; and produced the complete annual report through group audit.

Building—and knowing when to stop.

During COVID, I built an e-commerce company end to end: product research, Chinese sourcing, brand and packaging design, paid acquisition, accounting, fulfilment and customer service.

200 SKUs at peak · 10m² storage to 3PL

By year two, storage, customer service and accounting were outsourced. But the model depended on constant trend discovery, while post-COVID demand fell and offline alternatives competed near cost. I chose to wind it down rather than chase scale without durability.

The lasting lesson was disciplined capital allocation: I redirected proceeds into Dutch real estate and focused my professional energy on higher-value finance work.
